Sarah Blake

Discipline: Jewellery

I specialised in illustration whilst studying for a degree in graphic design and later worked as a freelance illustrator for various magazines and publications but, whilst taking a part-time adult education course for fun, I discovered the joy of working with metal. My love of all thing miniature led me to making silver jewellery, the small format of which allows me to explore ideas on an intimate scale.

All my work is hand made by me in my tiny studio in Epsom, Surrey. I work with recycled sterling silver and use various hand techniques to create interesting and detailed surfaces. I combine etched patterns, textured elements and shapes to create (often) asymmetrical pieces, but which I hope also have a sense of harmony and balance.

I often incorporate semi-precious stones for their vibrant colour but preferring free-form stones which I find more interesting, and which also compliment the bohemian style of my jewellery.

I take huge pleasure in the designing and making process, which I find very therapeutic. My aim is simple, to create unique, but wearable jewellery, that will bring joy to the wearer.
